Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to My P.E. Press, our first newspaper edition for residents in the 828 area code.

This publication was created especially for you by local students of My P.E. Kids Film & Media Academy. Our goal is to showcase our talents while keeping you aware of what’s happening right in your backyard.

As we learn skills in film, broadcast and journalism, we’ve covered community celebrations, sports camps, celebrity interviews and our first film festival premiere. Now we are bringing those stories to print with more coming on My P.E. TV.

With this edition, we’re also launching DEAR PRESS—a special invitation to news organizations, banks, businesses and institutions to co-sponsor opportunities for our next generation of journalists and filmmakers. They’ll get to invest in youth reporting, equipment and mentorship that will aid young people in capturing and reporting stories from our community.

We commit to ask questions, check facts, credit our sources and report stories with care. We look forward to receiving and sharing your responses.

Among our student writers are Nashay Horton, Nivaryas Horton, Jordan Mervin and Messiah Nixon. My P.E. Kids are learning to listen attentively, report accurately and preserve their communities’ history through storytelling.

The legacy of our communities must be passed on by our youth who take pride in knowing and sharing our stories.

MEET OUR YOUNG STORYTELLERS

Learning to listen.
Ready to tell the story.

Our lead student writers include Nashay Horton, Nivaryas Horton, Jordan Mervin, and Messiah Nixon. Together with their fellow My P.E. Kids, they’re bringing film, broadcast, and journalism skills into the community.
